Finding Our Purpose in Life

It is with profound aspiration that I wish for each and every person to find here the tools needed for a better life. I hope that with something presented or some words spoken, a connection is made within you, one that reinforces or guides you toward finding your purpose in life.

How do we find purpose? I’m not talking about finding a job, your daily responsibilities, or even long-term goals. I am talking about the real reason why you’re here, the reason you exist.

Amazing things happen when purpose in life is found. I’ll share with you a quote from Patanjali that goes as follows:

“When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds: Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great, and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.”

What are limitations? Limitations are restraints that prevent us from moving unto another level.  Limitations are placed on us mostly by our thoughts. We think we can’t be a lawyer, doctor, musician or even an entrepreneur because we tell our selves that we don’t have the skills or resources.

When our purpose in life is found and we allow our self to become excited, we find our self believing we can accomplish anything we set our mind on. Talents will emerge, if you want to sing, the voice will come, if you want to be an Olympian, athletic talents would manifest.

I urge you to step away from limitations whether they be adapted or created, do not allow anything to get in the way of what you want to accomplish in life. Circumstances do not define who we are or who we can become. Let your imagination be the determinant of the life you can achieve. We are the only person in control of our future.

Once your mind can conceive it, you can achieve it!  So Think BIG!

Author David Swartz wrote in the Magic of Thinking Big; “When it comes to thinking big we need to make our attitudes our allies”…….. “Where success is concern, people are not measured in inches, pounds, or college degrees or their family backgrounds, – people are measured by the size of their thinking. How big we think determines the size of our accomplishments.  Think Big Enough to see who you really are…….we grossly overestimate other people and underestimate ourselves and sell ourselves short, our excuses is not what’s important, it’s our attitudes toward life, that counts.

I will reinforce this once more, concentrate on the positive attributes you have and think big when you think of what you are capable of doing.

There are no excuses for not living life to your full potential. We all have within us a genius waiting to be discovered. The genius within ourselves is only found when we believe in ourselves and we develop a resolute determination to know who we are and become the best we can be.

True success is not about a future destination, it’s not a place to get to, it’s not something to achieve like money, fame or status.   As defined by Earl Nightingale: Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.

Success Involves:

  • Knowing who you really are
  • Finding your purpose in life and living it
  • Believing in yourself
  • Thinking Big
  • Developing a resolute determination to be the best you can be

Being here today clearly shows you believe in yourself and you are well on your way to accomplishing great things. The tools you’ll receive here on COOL would be an asset in carving for your self a future filled with success, abundance and fulfillment.

Mentorship Program

The Rotary Club of St. Vincent celebrates Vocational Service Month in October of each year.  As one of our projects we are preparing to launch our Mentorship Program. A mentor  is someone who serves as a counselor or guide. The way the program works is that a group of students are paired with an expert in a particular field of study (the Mentor) in order for the students to learn about an area of mutual interest. The mentor’s role includes communicating expertise in the field, answering questions, or assisting with a particular project.

Mentoring enable students to:

  1. Set better goals, helping individuals discover what they really want, using their own values, needs and vision as a reference point.
  2. Reach their goals faster providing a consistent structure of support and offering innovative strategies to reach their goals.
  3. Make significant changes focusing on areas such as business, career and quality of life.
  4. Get ahead professionally using career advancement strategies, reputation-building methods and business development tactics.
  5. Make better decisions & have someone to collaborate with.

A mentor is someone who can guide the mentee, help them to find the right path and who can help to develop answers to their career issues. Mentoring provides the mentee with an opportunity to think about their career options and progress. A good mentor helps the mentee to believe in him/herself and increase their confidence. Mentoring allows the mentee to explore new ideas in confidence. It is a chance to look more closely at yourself, your issues, opportunities and what you want in life. Mentoring is about becoming more self aware, taking responsibility for your life and directing your life in the direction you decide, rather than leaving it to change.

Mentoring can produce a vast amount of benefits to a mentee including:

  • Self Development
  • Increase in Self Confidence
  • Access to advice for Career Guidance
  • Provide answers to Questions
  • Clarification of Problems
  • Gain in Independence
  • Shares Skills on becoming Proactive about Life

A good mentor will want to ensure that the mentee gains confidence and independence as a result of mentoring and is eventually able to go forward independently. The mentor can provide coaching on interpersonal and organizational skills. Mentors can also provide a sounding board against which to bounce new ideas, clarify problems and suggest alternative working methods.
