Scholarships & Student Loans Available in St.Vincent and the Grenadines

 
 
There are many scholarships and student loans available for persons interested in pursuing studies in various career fields across the world.  Loans can be received from banking instituions as well as through the government national student loan program.

National Student Loan

 SCHOLARSHIPS:    All scholarship applications must be done on a Tl Form.

 Scholarships

 NOTICES for scholarships are published in the News Media, air on the Radio and posted on the Notice Board of the SCD.

A.  Undergraduate Studies

Study areas are normally given by the Agency. Requirements are listed below.

I. Island Scholarships

  • Available to Vincentian nationals
  • Must be a graduate of the Community College in the year the scholarship is granted.
  • Subjects must be attained in one sitting.
  • Scholarship is based on academic performance according to the ratings from the University of Cambridge.

II. Organization of American States (OAS)   (October)

  • Students must be enrolled in fulltime studies.
  • Funding is for maximum of two years.
  • Scholarship available in any field of study.
  • Students already enrolled must submit current academic transcript along with application.
  • Students about to enter must submit letter of acceptance for the Programme with application.

III. Mexican Scholarships (March/April)

  • Applicants must have at least five (5) O’ Level subjects/CXC General passes, including Mathematics or English Language.  In addition, applicant must also have two (2) A’ Level subject passes relating to the field of study.
  • The programme is taught in Spanish.
  • Duration 5 years in addition to 6 to 9 months to study the Spanish languages.

IV. Cuban Scholarships (January/February)

  • Applicants must have at least five (5) O’ Level subject/CXC General passes, including Mathematics or English Language.  In addition, applicant must also have two (2) A’ Level subject passes relating to the field of study.
  • Duration is 6 years with exception of Medicine which is 7 years.  The 1st year will be devoted to learning the Spanish Language.

V.  St. George’s School of Medicine Scholarships (October)

  • Applicants must have at least five (5) O’ Level subject/CXC General passes, including Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry and Biology.  In addition, applicant must also have three (3) A’ Level subject passes at Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics.
  • Applications must be accompanied by formal Letter of Acceptance from the St. George’s University and transcripts.

VI. Simon Bolivar United World College of Agriculture Foundation – Venezuela (January)

  • Duration – 3years
  • Study Area – Agriculture
  • Country of Study – Venezuela
  • Requirements:
    o Five (5) CXC/GCE O’Level subjects including English and Mathematics.
    o Have a strong vocation for agriculture and manual work in rural areas in a hot climate.
    o Between age 18 to 21 years.
    o Students must meet the cost of Graduate fee of US$30.00.

VII. United States Military Academics Awards

Requirements 

  • SAT Score of 1150
  • Pass Physical Examination
  • Not more than twenty-three (23) years of age.

 

B. POST GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

List of countries for which Commonwealth Scholarships are usually available:
Canada   (July/August)
Malaysia   (September/October)
New Zealand   (March/April)
Trinidad and Tobago (October/November)
United Kingdom  (July/August)
   
  • Tenure of Awards and Conditions are normally set out by the Agency.
  • Applicants must have at least an Upper Second Degree.
  • Does not need acceptance to a University.
  • Must have completed the Degree in the last five years.
  • Applicant must be a citizen of a Commonwealth country.
  • Scholarships not tenable in Country stated.
  • Should have already completed the field of study at undergraduate level.
  • Not available to students pursuing courses in medicine or related fields.
  • Not available to students pursuing Executive Master Degrees.
  • Scholarship available in any field of study (exceptions are stated in notice if applicable).

Organization of American States (OAS)/LASPAU

  • Applicants must have at least an Upper Second Degree.
  • Does not need acceptance to a University.
  • Field of study must be pursued in North America or the Caribbean.
  • Should have already completed the field of study at undergraduate level.
  • Not available to students pursuing courses in medicine or related fields.
  • Not available to students pursuing Executive Master Degrees.
  • Scholarship available in specific fields of study as advertised.

Financial Assistance

Government pays 75% of the cost of Tuition for students enrolled in the MBBS programme at the UWI, Trinidad.
